Cat Utting is currently studying A-Level art, maths, physics and chemistry at Francis Holland girl’s school in London. When she has finished her A-Levels, Cat plans to attend art college and complete a degree in illustration. She says her influences are confusion, Rembrandt, Heinrich Clay, Raymond Briggs, Hérge, Dylan Thomas, Heath Robinson, ambiguity, perfection, shapes, patterns, faces, language and my frustrations with it, memories, imagination, everything!

Cat was chosen to take part in our 'Watch This Space 2' exhibition by The Illustration Gallery.

Over the year or so since The Illustration Gallery opened its doors, I’ve seen work by many excellent illustrators.

So, when I came to choose an illustrator to take part in this exhibition, I was faced with a great deal of choice. However, I did not have to think about it for long, since Cat Utting’s work had made a great impression on me.

I first saw her art on MySpace and was immediately struck by the beauty of the work she produces, which shows a remarkable maturity and confidence given her young age; she is only 16.

This is the first time that Cat has exhibited in a gallery and it is a great pleasure to give her the opportunity. She has the potential for a brilliant future as an artist and we wish her well!"
