Even her most commercial illustration work can easily stand alone as pieces of fine art produced by a creative mind with a singular, personal vision. She reinforces her skillful drawing with a brilliant sense of design and communication and a touch of personality and beauty that can be seen in everything she does. And that’s the mark of a true artist -- one that can’t help but be expressive, even within the sometimes restrictive confines of a commissioned gig.

Most importantly, her work is more than just beautiful -- it’s fun. No other illustrator I can think of has quite as masterfully combined elegance with whimsy in the way that Yuko Shimizu has.
